HISTORY

1947 Concrete Mixer

Havin Material Service, Inc. was established in 1940 by William G. Havin. In 1947, Mr. Havin purchased his first real mixer truck, an International. The mixer held three cubic yards of concrete, making it much better than the old open tub mixers where one person would ride along with the driver and keep mixing the product with a paddle so it would not set up in the truck.

In 1985, Mr. Havin retired and he and his wife Arlene spent the next eight years traveling and spending quality time together.

Their daughter Lyn Havin Sohn, became involved in the business in 1978 painting concrete statuary and doing minor bookkeeping. Soon she got involved in the aggregate production, then the Redi Mix concrete and dispatching, and finally, the books and management. In 1985 when Mr. Havin retired Lyn took his position in the company and now has 28 years inh the business. Havin Material Service, Inc., has developed from owning one three cubic yard Redi Mix truck to operating three Redi Mix plants (St. Clair, Union and Sullivan) and two sand and gravel aggregate plants throughout mid-Missouri. They also are one of the largest suppliers of brick, block, culturedstone and landscape retaining walls in the area.
